EBF will be (and is already) experiencing yet another hiatus. We might try to come up with a better plan for updating in the future, but for now I think it’s pretty safe to say that “updates Monday’s” doesn’t really apply anymore. The difficulty: Time, really. Jon has a lot on his plate and can’t set aside enough time to draw a decent strip each week. The new model will probably end up being based on when Jon can draw strips, so it will be difficult to predict when updates will be. Unfortunately, this site doesn’t make any money, so Nick and Jon have to focus their attention elsewhere (due largely to the continued enjoyment both of them derive from living under a roof and eating at least one or two meals a day). No one ever claimed web comics were a cash cow…

Anyways, EBF is not dead or ending. It just needs some work and creators who have time to do that work…

Jon: If you don’t get what Panel 2 is all about, please refer to strip #6, Good Advice.

Some firsts here. This is the first strip done in full color. Don’t get used to it right now. It takes alot longer to do full color, even when I just reuse the same frames for a majority of the strip. I’ll integrate it more as my technique gets better. This looks pretty OK, but I’d prefer a more dynamic use of color. But that’ll take some time to pin down, so expect black and whites for the near future. Also, this is the first time in the strip’s history that Chris has had a “mugshot.” He’s always been seen looking to one or the other sides.

Updates will be more frequent in the future. I’m organizing a new schedule that will incorporate EBF as an integral part of my week. That schedule doesn’t start til next week, though, so probably no update on Monday. But I will keep you posted.

Jon: Claire is sad. Our hope is to one day do EBF in full color. For now, I’ve been experimenting with some basic color schemes.

Jon: Writing this tiny graphic novel instilled within me a greater respect for comic artists and writers. Most people would probably not consider a comic book among the higher art forms, but as much work, if not more, goes into their creation as goes into making a painting or writing a book…at least, that’s the case with the good ones. This genre has within it several movements and periods, just as with literature and the other visual arts, and the best graphic novels are capsules preserving the feel and mood of a time period in a way that no other medium really can. I urge all of you (if you haven’t already - it’s difficult to gauge our readership) to take some time out of your life to sit down with a graphic novel. I’m not talking about Batman or The Fantastic Four, although they are important in the history of graphia (the former, more so than the latter, which was just fucking stupid…Dr. Fantastic? What an asshole.) Take a look at Maus by Art Spiegelman or Palestine by Joe Sacco. Then tell me that comics are not a high art form.

Jon: If you didn’t read the copyright page, you probably missed the note about me knowing nothing about the painting industry. I think it would be feasible, though, to convince some well-to-do person that some paintings are worth $5 million. Alright! I’ve now got two viable career options: Chick flick writer and art inflationist (it should be a real word. How ’bout inflatiator?).
