Most people would probably not consider a comic book among the higher art forms, but as much work, if not more, goes into their creation as goes into making a painting or writing a book…at least, that’s the case with the good ones. This genre has within it several movements and periods, just as with literature and the other visual arts, and the best graphic novels are capsules preserving the feel and mood of a time period in a way that no other medium really can. I urge all of you (if you haven’t already - it’s difficult to gauge our readership) to take some time out of your life to sit down with a graphic novel. I’m not talking about <i>Batman</i> or <i>The Fantastic Four</i>, although they are important in the history of graphia (the former, more so than the latter, which was just fucking stupid…Dr. Fantastic? What an asshole.) Take a look at <i>Maus</i> by Art Spiegelman or <i>Palestine</i> by Joe Sacco.
